The professional will be able to patch the plaster ceiling. This patch should be at least 2 inches larger than the hole in the drywall. Drywall screws can be used to apply new drywall. After that, apply jointing compound and smoothen the surface with a sponge. You can then paint the surface to give it a more consistent look. Make sure that the entire area is properly ventilated to make painting easier.

How do you fix a small water damaged ceiling?

Can you just paint over water damaged ceiling?
If a water stain has caused any damage, e.g. cracks or flaking plaster, make sure that you repair the area first. This will help get a great finish and improve paint adhesion. To cover the stain, you will need a specialist stain blocker (such as the Zinsser Cover Stain (opens in new tab)) or an oil-based paint. 18. feb. 2022
